New Scale Robotics has deployed six Q-Span Workstation EDU kits at the Monroe Community College (MCC) Workforce Development Center (FWD) in Rochester, NY.
The Q-Span Workstation EDU Kit includes a Universal Robots UR3e collaborative robot (cobot) mounted on a rugged mobile workstation table, equipment for a metrology laboratory, a cobot learning console with URCaps software to control the cobot and run measurement programs, and PC software to record measurement data for analysis.
“Manufacturers in the US are looking for employees with collaborative robotics experience and a basic understanding of metrology for quality control and process improvement,” said Stefan Friedrich, marketing manager for New Scale Robotics. “With the addition of these courses, the FWD Center continues to improve. the best technologies in production, giving applicants a competitive advantage.”
The New Scale Robotics kit allows educational programs to offer two additional courses. The first is the UR educational program, which covers the basics of managing collaborative robots. The program includes laboratories that use conveyor belts, palletizing, and other common uses for robotics to manipulate objects in manufacturing.
The second course, New Scale Robotics Intro to Metrology, covers the basics of metrology and includes laboratory work on automated measurements using robotic calipers. Both courses require a total of 40 hours of classes.
“We are focused on rapidly training, retraining and upskilling the skilled workers that local employers need,” said Dr. Robin Cole, vice president of economic development, workforce development and technical training at MCC. “The new large-scale robots and versatile robots allow us to easily expand our FWD Center course offerings with these training kits that can be easily implemented and adapted to the needs of technical training programs like ours.”
New Scale Robotics creates intelligent automation tools for flexible manufacturing. Its products integrate with small, collaborative robots, making automation affordable for small and medium-sized companies. The company specializes in helping manufacturers automate manual measurements.
