Industrial robots are no longer confined to automotive assembly lines. New data show they are rapidly spreading into machine tending, lithium battery production, solar installation, and 3C electronics — turning what was once a large-plant tool into everyday equipment for mid-sized factories.
The machine-tending segment is leading the charge. Fortune Business Insights estimates China’s automated machine-tending market at USD 2.2 billion in 2026, about 13.3% of global output. Stratistics MRC values the worldwide market at USD 2.8 billion this year, rising to USD 6.2 billion by 2034 — a 10.5% compound annual growth rate.
A typical six-axis robot paired with a CNC machine tool runs unattended cycles of loading blanks, machining, and unloading finished parts. The investment per cell starts around RMB 150,000 — far below automotive-grade automation — with payback in 18 to 24 months. That price point is the key reason small factories are adopting robots for the first time. Chinese vendors including Estun and EFORT are winning share from FANUC, ABB, and KUKA by offering lower prices and faster local service.
[Battery Manufacturing]
Battery manufacturing is the fastest-growing vertical. At the CIBF 2026 trade show in Shenzhen, Rokae demonstrated force-controlled assembly and laser-welding solutions tailored to lithium cell production. Huayan Robotics, working with Siemens, introduced a battery-pack fastening system rated at 300 N·m, able to pick screws, align them, and tighten while recording data for quality traceability.
Solar & 3C Integration
In solar, TrinaTracker launched Buildex and Aurora in September: one robot installs panels autonomously using AI vision and 3D cameras, while the other cleans deployed arrays. In 3C, collaborative robots are replacing caged industrial arms because they work safely beside operators and can be reprogrammed in days rather than weeks — a fit for the industry’s short product cycles.
Beijing is expected to add policy tailwinds. Xinhua reported October 22 that new smart-manufacturing guidelines are being drafted, explicitly supporting intelligent machine tools and robots with flexible operation and online inspection.
